HongBaos that I got from new year!
(This is my homework so I have to be VERY serious)

This few weeks we have been doing exercises on the topic, "Gender Discrmination". I definitely learnt A LOT, one of which is that we actually have to leave a space between 'a' and 'lot' while typing "alot".

Apparently after these few weeks I knew quite a bit of foot binding, a bit of vocabulary, and sexual harassment. In ancient China the women were required to bind their feet, and were not allowed to study. Only men have the luxury to go to school.

It is a weird culture but the men at that time simply loved those small feet. It was said that if they did not bind their feet, they would be left on the shelf. That's absurd in today's society but it was common to them. Terrible isn't it? For the sake of being "beautiful", they would rather hurt themselves, and ,mind you, the process is not at all easy. They would have to endure pain, and if I am not wrong, they were prone to fall more easily, and more prone to get hip injury. Such was the price of being pretty. Personally I think that's quite disgusting.

I also learnt that gender discrimination is also a very serious issue, and even though we are living in the 21st century, it is still evident in our modern-day society. In working enviroments, where there are a lot of those "office politics", women are frequently ostracized and despised. Jobs such as engineering, doctors, are perceived as men's job, and only a small number of women will want to attempt to carve a career on these.

In addition, I knew words that could be use in a less "gender discriminatory" terms, like changing the word, fireman to firefighter, air stewardess to cabin crew,  etc.  Really, saying these words help to, so called minimise the effect of gender discrimination.

This shall be my reflection on what I learnt :P
